Infrared Chemiluminescence from the Reactions of Oxygen Atoms with Halomethanes,

Abstract

Infrared chemiluminescene from vibrationally excited CO was observed when CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, CHCl3 or CH2Br2 was introduced into a stream of oxygen atoms. Emission from vibrationally excited HC1 was also observed from CH2Cl2 and CHCl3. The mechanisms describing the reactions of oxygen atoms with these molecules are discussed in detail.
