Investigations on the Dynamics of MHD Flows.

Abstract

The report is concerned with theoretical investigations on magnetohydrodynamic flows in advanced energy generators and energy sources. Similarity analyses are presented for compressible magnetohydrodynamic flows in diffusers with transverse magnetic fields (1) in the polytropic approximation and (2) with consideration of thermal dissipation processes. Graphical representations of the velocity and temperature distributions are given for various flow parameters. -The electric potential and velocity fields in an electrically active liquid metal brush are claculated analytically and a criterion for the onset of backflow is derived. -A similarity theory is developed for explosions and implosions in plasmas with nonlinear electron and ion thermal waves.
