Raman Study of Isothermal Devitrification Kinetics of NaPO3(gl).

Abstract

A laser Raman spectroscopic method has been developed by which the increase in crystallinity of a devitrifying glass can be monitored continuously and isothermally, at the devitrification temperature without sample quenching, in a molecularly specific manner to yield high quality kinetic data on the glass-crystal transformation. Applied to the study of vitreous (NaPO3)n(gl), the method has yielded continuous data which have been fit, by a non-linear least squares method, to an exponential equation. The results are analyzed in terms of current theories. (Modified author abstract)
