Meteorological Two-Axis Fluidic Wind Sensor Improvement Modification.

Abstract

Two matching pairs of round nozzles made by electro-depositing technique were selected as the improved performance two-axis wind sensor. The whole assembly was then calibrated through a rectangular-to-polar converter in a low speed wind tunnel. The performance improvement effort resulted in a reduction of maximum error in resolved wind speed over the 0 degree to 360 degree direction range from a previous plus or minus 50% down to a plus or minus 10% at 15 ft/sec (or 5 meters/second) tunnel wind velocity and an indicated direction angle error of less than plus or minus 10 degrees.
