Aerodynamics of Air Cushion Vehicles

Abstract

The book presents the physical fundamentals of the aerodynamics of air cushion vehicles, results of experimental studies on nozzle installations forming the air cushion, and an approximate theory of determining the the aerodynamic characteristics of a vehicle from specified geometric parameters of its flow-through section. Functions are derived that determine transverse static stability of an air cushion vehicle with a sectionalized nozzle installation. Relations are set up between the drag of the flow-through section, the lift properties of the vehicle, and the aerodynamic characteristics of fans. A complex of parameters is outlined for the aerodynamic calculation of a vehicle in the hovering regime.
