A General Continuum Theory for Viscoelastic Laminated Composites.

Abstract

In this report linear viscoelastic material behavior is introduced into a continuum theory with microstructure for wave propagation in laminated composite materials which was earlier developed for elastic laminated composites. A constitutive law of convolution form is postulated allowing the application of the correspondence principle of linear viscoelasticity. The equations of general two-dimensional theory are given. From these the governing equations for the limiting cases of propagation normal and parallel to the layering are immediately available. For the limiting cases, an approximate theory particularly well-suited for computation is discussed. (Author-PL)
