Variable-property effects are included. An orthogonal expansion method is used, and a computer program is provided for general application of the method. The new theory is useful for determining alignment tolerances in commercial separation columns or in absolute measurements of (alpha sub T). The theory is supported by experiments on separation of gaseous Ne20 from Ne22. (Author)
