Is the Use of Herbicides in Limited War Justified

Abstract

The essay reviews the development of opposition to the use of herbicides in Vietnam from the military, scientific, political, and legal standpoint. Although the opposition seems to rest on scientific speculation and strained legalities, this rather humane weapon has been discontinued. The United States' policy presently is to suspend the use of herbicides and take action that appears to outlaw the use in future wars.
