Materiel Readiness Indicators: Are They Valid.

Abstract

The US Army unit readiness reporting system is designed to provide an indication of the capability of military units to perform their missions. A vital element of this capability is the availability and condition of the equipment of the unit. The essay examines the reporting criteria used to determine materiel readiness, a part of the overall system for evaluating the predicted performance of units. Conclusions are drawn as to the validity of the indicators used in satisfying the purpose of the system and recommendations made for improvement. (Author)
