Abstract

The document examines the nature and significance of the political, economic and military expansion of the USSR into the Mediterranean and Mideast to include the Persian Gulf. It isolates and examines enduring Soviet aspirations in the region, and the threats posed thereby to the US, NATO and the other nations of the free world. It suggests a strategy in response to the Soviet challenge. (Author)
