Application of Nonlinear Analysis (Plastic) to NASTRAN using RING Elements Including Aspect Ratio Effect.

Abstract

NASA Structural Analysis (NASTRAN) Computer Program is a general purpose computer program developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In order to model cartridge case problems, three studies were performed to test the applicability of NASTRAN. Study 1 modified NASTRAN to perform a nonlinear analysis (plastic) and include RING elements. Study 2 demonstrated that large aspect ratios in RING elements can safely be ignored. Study 3 showed that varying element sizes within a model do not affect the deformations or stresses. (Author)
