Recreational Boat Developmental Test Program Developmental Testing: Volume I. Phase I Report.

Abstract

The report is Volume I of a three volume report. The report presents recreational boat safety research and planning for a developmental testing program. The program required the development of the philosophy, advanced planning, test methods, instrumentation, data handling and standards files plan, and proof test necessary to support the preparation of these plans, etc. During the program, research and development testing and analysis was performed in small boat dynamics, safe powering test course evaluation, dynamic measurement methods, and small lightweight boat dynamic stability when dead-in-the-water. In support of the tests, some 40 boats were acquired and outboard motors from 4 to 125 HP were used. The report presents summarized results of all tests and planning and analysis activity during the program. The Volume I report formed the basis for Volume II - Tests, Methods and Reports. (Author)
