Controlled Reactivity in Some Unstable Inorganic Reagents.
Abstract
Investigated, by various techniques, were the reactions of unstable inorganic systems-peroxides and related compounds. The oxidation of ferroin type complexes by various peroxides was studied. The addition reactions of peroxides to carbonyl double bonds was found rapid with a high formation constant. The relative nucleophilic reactivities of hydroperoxide and structurally related ions toward various substrates was investigated. This area is complicated by solvent effects and side reactions. The influence of ion-pairing between peroxoanions and metal ions (as intermediates) in redox reactions was studied. Other efforts considered the photochemical and thermal activation of perioxide reactions. (Modified author abstract)
