FZU-31/B Free-Fall Sensor.

Abstract

The purpose of this two-phase engineering development program of the FZU-31/B Free-Fall Sensor was to fabricate and deliver a prescribed number of sensors for service. The design evaluation phase focused on a design approach that would maximize sensor reliability over a 10-year lifespan and provide design disclosure for high volume production of low cost sensor assemblies. The basis for the engineering development activity was data obtained during the advanced development effort, documented in Technical Report AFATL-TR-70-128, dated December 1970. The qualification phase effort involved refinement of the sensor design to incorporate improvements resulting from a producibility study and testing conducted during the design evaluation phase. Two hundred fifty sensors were fabricated and tested. (Modified author abstract)
