Review of Selected Aspects of Depot-Level Maintenance Support of Aircraft: Depot Capacity (Sub-Task 2).

Abstract

The report is the final report on Phase a. (Reconnaissance) of Subtask 2, LMI Task 73-2. The objective was to prepare a study plan to develop a model for determining requirements for DoD aeronautical maintenance depot capacity. The reconnaissance phase of the other subtasks of 73-2 have been reported separately; namely, Subtask 1, economy of scale, and Subtask 3, interservicing. Economy of scale, interservicing and many other issues turn on the requirement for depot capacity. The excellent depot workloading models in use by the military services were not intended to explore capacity requirements. Long-range capacity considerations are complex and have not yielded to simplified approaches in the past. Therefore, a phased study program is recommended to develop the necessary model which is suitable to determine depot capacity requirements. (Modified author abstract)
