Review of Selected Aspects of Depot-Level Maintenance Support of Aircraft: Interservicing (Sub-Task 3).

Abstract

The report is the final report on Phase a. of Subtask 3 of LMI Task 73-2. In Phase a. the Institute was to develop an analytic system for portraying all the costs associated with interservicing. Phase b. was to include a test of the developed system. It is recommended that Phase b. be not undertaken since new analytic systems for costing interservicing are not needed. The military services already possess the necessary analytic tools for portraying the significant costs and benefits which accompany interservicing. It is believed the principal problem associated with interservicing has been reluctance to proceed on the part of the services. Consequently, staff and procedures for evaluating and deciding upon interservicing opportunities need to be strengthened. Recommendations on how that should be done are included in the report.
