Computation Techniques for Various Gravity Anomaly Correction Terms.

Abstract

The various correction terms to the gravity anomaly in terms of the Modern Theories of Gravimetric Geodesy and some alternative computational procedures are discussed. The recommended computational procedures are an Iterative Solution (Bjerhammer and Moritz) and a Nonlinear Solution (Moritz). A six degree by six degree anomaly field, which is representative of a mountainous area, is established using available gravity and elevation data and Rapp's prediction program. The gravity anomaly correction term computational procedure and results are discussed to include: procedure for reduction to the level surface passing through the computation point; the integration requirement for the innermost area; methods for computation for outer areas using discrete mean block values and an alternative approach; test to determine whether to use linear, nonlinear, or iterative solutions.
