Description of a Fast-Running Fire-Spread Model.

Abstract

The paper describes a fire-spread model and computer program intended to be a fast-running analysis tool for use in conjunction with studies of local civil defense emergency operations. Based on the more detailed fire-spread model developed by the IIT Research Institute, this model attempts to preserve the basic mechanisms, particularly the spread of fire by radiation and firebrands. It achieves fast running through replacing more detailed calculations by curve fitting of results, and replacing detailed ignition-probability calculations by assumed input values. This model adds provisions for both the coupling of blast damage to fire and allowing for multiple weapon inputs. (Modified author abstract)
