Small Earthquakes in the Nevada Region, and Earthquake Activity and Strain Changes Associated with Underground Explosions

Abstract

This report covers the status of the University of Nevada Strain program for the period June 1, 1972 to May 31 1973. During this period the stations at Mina and Round Mountain have provided continuous secular strain data. Work on the station at Kaiserville was postponed until June, 1973, and is now near completion. The data from the station at Mina and Round Mountain have been analyzed through May 15, 1973. These strain measurements indicate that in this area of the Basin and Range, strain rates are less than 2 x 10 to the-6th power per year.
