Electromagnetic Wave Propagation and Radiation through Plasmas,

Abstract

The report includes the study of electromagnetic wave propagation and radiation through plasmas. The transient response of short duration electromagnetic pulses has been studied in order to investigate certain properties of the reflecting layers. The study of transient electromagnetic wave propagation was extended to investigate certain properties of laboratory plasma. It is argued and shown that such a study could be of great diagnostic value. Further, in the third section of this report the radiation properties of antennas immersed in plasmas have been studied and their diagnostic features have been shown. With a view to show the superiority of helical antenna over other antennas used in satellites a study was carried out and is included in section four. The polarization features and modes of radiation of helix make its use very handy in satellite transmission. Certain studies regarding the range determination accounting for the effect of plasma scattering was carried out and is included in fifth section of this report. (Author)
