Acoustic Radiation from a Nonconcentric Circular Cylinder,
Abstract
The effect of a nonconcentricity of inner and outer surfaces of a circular cylindrical 'acoustic' shell submerged in an infinite acoustic medium is considered. The shell is driven by an internal time harmonic pressure in a jth spatial mode. First-order effects of the nonconcentricity introduce 'nearest neighbor' modes, i.e., (j + 1) and (j - 1) spatial modes. Numerical values are calculated for a particular thin shell geometry--these results indicate a negligible effect for these nonconcentricities which may reasonably be expected. A thick walled shell may allow for more substantial effects since larger nonconcentricities are possible. (Author)
