Numerical Analysis of a Coaxial Flashlamp - Pumped Rhodamine 6G Dye Laser.

Abstract

S, Mathematical models, Rates, Efficiency, Laser beams*Organic dye lasers, Rhodamine 6G, Xanthene dyesThe coefficients of the laser rate equations describing a pulsed, coaxial flashlamp-pumped organic dye laser, which are not directly accessible, are determined from experimental data, such as, shape of the pump, shape of laser output pulse and energy output of laser at optimum coupling. Computer solutions of the laser rate equations using these coefficients agreed with the experimentally measured laser pulse shape. Also, with the numerical data obtained, an energy balance between spontaneous emission, lost stimulated emission, and useful stimulated emission (laser output) could be established. The effects of amplified spontaneous emission (superradiance) on efficiency and beam quality are discussed. (Author)
