Performance of Battery BB-641/A in OH-6A Helicopter.

Abstract

PORTION OF THE FLIGHT COULD BE REPLAYED IN THE LABORATORY. A portable oscilloscope was connected to the output terminals of the tape recorder to check its operation during flight of the aircraft. Battery BB-641/A, a 24 V, 13 Ah nickel-cadmium battery used in the OH-6A Helicopter, was selected for this investigation. After flight information was collected on the tape recorder, it was played back into a memory oscilloscope in the Laboratory and significant portions of the information were photographed. In addition, continuous written record of the data was obtained by replaying the tapes back on a recording voltmeter. This information can be used to determine the adequacy of the battery under its assigned conditions of location and performance in the aircraft, and various battery designs in the aircraft can be more positively evaluated.
