A Bayesian Assessment of Coherent Structures,

Abstract

In this paper the authors develop procedures for estimating the reliability of a coherent structure when a prior distribution is assigned to the reliability of the structure function and when failure data on either the structure, its elements, or on both are available. For structures comprised of independent elements connected either in series or in parallel, the authors obtain all the moments of the posterior distribution of the reliability of the structure function, for any prior distribution assigned to it. Bounds are obtained on the moments of the posterior distribution of the reliability of the structure function when the elements of the structure are associated. (Modified author abstract)
