The Selection and Demonstration of Advanced Nondestructive Testing Techniques for on-Site Missile Inspection. Volume I. Technical Report.

Abstract

The program was planned around the problem of on-site non-destructive testing (NDT) of solid rocket motors. It was designed to select, evaluate, and demonstrate NDT capabilities, beginning with comprehensive surveys of industry and the world's literature (from 1960 to mid-1972). Many materials and NDT devices were identified; most of these being ruled out by the constraints of in-silo testing. Only two techniques showed promise: Ultrasonic holography and gamma radiography.
