High Speed Turbulent Mixing and Combustion.

Abstract

Research results discussed are associated with investigations of turbulent mixing and combustion processes in advanced propulsion and laser systems. Momentum transport modeling for jets was completed. Review of analytical and experimental mixing literature was extended to chemical lasers. A unique analytical modeling approach applicable to practical hardware such as chemical lasers and sudden dump combustors is presented. A correlation was obtained for jet penetration of light and heavy gases injected into a subsonic cross flow through a narrow slot. Feasibility of obtaining combustion data for small boron particles near atmospheric pressure using shock-tube techniques was demonstrated, and ignition delay determined. (Modified author abstract)
