Analysis of Factors Modulating Morphobiochemical Differentiation of Neural Centers Involved in Occular Motility and Proprioception.
Abstract
An interim report is given of ovservations completed in a study of stained serial sections of 50 chick embryos of age varying from the third day of incubation to the day after hatching to determine the anatomical development of the interstitial nucleus. This report includes anatomical descriptions of interstitial nuclei from embryos of 4, 9, 10, 14 and 16 days. Prior to the present study only fragmentary information was available about the structure of this nucleus and its conncetions. The author believes this to be the first contribution of a serial analysis of the nucleus with alternate use of stain for neurofibrillae and for somatofibrillae. This nucleus is believed to be involved in the transmission of impulses to the motor nuclei of the midbrain, bulb, and spinal medulla, those sensory inputs derived from the vestibula nucleus; and thus to be involved in motor responses to vestibular input.
