Area Nodal Communications Investigation.

Abstract

A comprehensive study of the capabilities in the millimeter wave and optical portions of the electromagnetic spectrum in an intrabase communications system environment was conducted, and the relative metits of each technology compared to developed the optimum intrabase communications system for postulated rapidly deployed command posts. The approach pursued was to compare the two technologies in a typical base deployment for projected communications needs of the 1980's. The investigation is based on a system composed of several hundred subscribers and several terminals. It considers systems that use information bandwidths in excess of 300 MHz and operate at maxmum ranges of 10 kilometers with 99.9 percent all-weather reliability. (Modified author abstract)
