XM511E2 Shipping and Storage Container Saddle Liner Material.

Abstract

A number of barrier materials for use as an XM511E2 shipping and storage container saddle liner were tested. The saddle liner is required to prevent adhesion between the container rubber saddle-cushioning material and the XM234 warhead section during storage. Polyethylene material has successfully been used for this purpose and is presently being utilized in field systems. Test results have shown that bleeding of the saddle cushioning material will stain and discolor the XM234 warhead section. Therefore, tests were conducted on a number of materials to locate a saddle liner which would eliminate the bleed through and prevent adhesion. (Author)
