Chemistry of Excited States.

Abstract

The photoreduction of anthraquinone was studied and spectro obtained. The Photo-Fries rearrangement was studied. The chemiluminescence of luminol in dimethylsulfoxide and dimethylsulfoxide-water systems was studied. The chemiluminescence of luminol in water was investigated, particularly the role of catalysts and oxidizing agents other than hydrogen peroxide. A detailed mechanism of the luminolodine system is presented. Chemiluminescence from radical ion-peroxide reactions was studied: Electrochemiluminescence from energy sufficient and energy deficient systems was studied. The effects of quenching and inert gases on ECL processes was studied and the mechanism of this quenching investigated. (Modified author abstract)
