On the Dynamic Response of a Prestressed Beam.

Abstract

In the first part of the report the dynamic bending response of a prestressed beam, in which the prestressing rod is continuously supported, is studied analytically. It is found that an axial prestressing force which passes through the centroids of the beam cross sections, has no effect upon the bending response of the beam. In the second part of the report a test set up of a prestressed cantilever beam is described and the determined natural frequencies are presented. The test results corroborate the analytical findings that the prestressing force has no effect upon the natural frequencies. (Author)
