Precision SSB Crystal Units.

Abstract

The report deals with the history, theoretical model, and derived postulates of design, processing, and measurement of fundamental mode 5 MHz quartz crystal resonators capable of reaching an aging rate of 2 x 10 to the minus 10th power per week within eight weeks and withstanding wide range temperature cycling with no more than plus or minus 1 x 10 to the minus 8th power permanent shift in frequency per temperature cycle. Experimental work has been limited to attempts to replace bonding cements with electro-plated nickel bonds and thereby obtain optimal advantage from the higher temperature processing capabilities so afforded. The results of this work are generally promising. (Author)
