Selection Procedures for Binomial Populations.

Abstract

Let (pi sub 1), (pi sub 2),...,(pi sub k) be k independent binomial populations such that the random observations (X sub i) from (pi sub i) has the frequency b(n;(p sub i), i=1,2,...,k. In this paper, our purpose is to study a procedure to select a subset of these populations containing the population whose parameter value equals the largest (p sub i). The results in this paper complement the results of Gupta and Sobel (1960), especially for smaller values of n. Another procedure to select a subset which excludes all inferior populations is also studied. Tables of constants for the first procedure have been computed for k > or = 3 and are given at the end of the paper. (Author)
