The Observed Decay of a Cyclonic Gulf Stream Ring.

Abstract

A cyclonic Gulf Stream ring was tracked in the western Sargasso Sea for 14 months from March 1971 to April 1972. The ring moved 700 km to the southwest at a rate of 2 km/day and was believed to have coalesced with the Gulf Stream off of Cape Canaveral. The study presented here is an investigation of the decay of the ring over the last 11 months of its life. (Modified author abstract)
