Theoretical Foundation for a General Quantal Molecular Reaction Rate Code. Volume I. General Formulation and Review of Vibrational Relaxation Theories and Measurements.

Abstract

The research examined the possible foundations for the development of a general molecular reaction rate code for use in laser modeling work. Volume I is devoted to a survey of some experimental and theoretical results, familiarity with which, it was felt, would be of value in defining the physical and computational elements to be incorporated in an ab initio modeling code. The survey was contained somewhat by restricting it to articles concerned with reactions involving energy transfer processes in gases most frequently used in chemical lasers based on the halides. The basic data base consisting of measurements of molecular relaxation rates and theories ranging from semiempirical to quantal with illustrative examples is reviewed and summarized.
