Nd:YAG Mini-Face-Pumped Laser (FPL).

Abstract

The purpose of this program was to demonstrate the feasibility of extending the Mini-Face-Pumped Laser (FPL) concept to use Nd:YAG as the laser material. The program is divided into 2 parts: the experimental investigation of Nd:YAG Mini-FPL pump cavities, and the theoretical study of the possible application of the Mini-FPL concept to the low power, high efficiency mode of operation required for space communications. Design parameters were generated which are necessary for the construction of YAG Mini-FPL's with specific performances.
