High Temperature Titanium Composites.

Abstract

Titanium alloy matrix composites reinforced with o.004 in. diameter silicon carbide and 0.010 in. diameter single crystal alpha Al2O3 (sapphire) continuous filaments were investigated. Conventional solid state press diffusion binding fabrication methods were used and a preliminary study to optimize fabrication parameters was made. Property evaluations included room and elevated temperature tensile, creep and stress rupture, thermal exposure, ballistict impact and shear strength tests. (Modified author abstract)
