Analytical Design of Stability Augmentation and Guidance Loops for a Beam Rider Guided Projectile.

Abstract

Design analyses were performed for the stability augmentation and guidance loops for a single axis of a 105mm beam rider guided projectile. Five flight conditions corresponding to various Mach numbers in the range from 1.5 to 4.0 were considered. Root locus techniques were used to select constant gains to provide good damping and good response to guidance commands over the Mach range considered. Transient responses to step, ramp, and parabolic inputs were calculated to illustrate the dynamic behavior characteristics of the design evolved. The influence of parameter changes on characteristic root locations was investigated. (Author)
