Resolution of Production Problems Associated with Variability of Mechanical Properties.

Abstract

The report details the work accomplished in the first phase of a two phase project aimed at determining the cause of the variability of mechanical properties in cannon tube forgings and then determining corrective processing measures to alleviate the variability. This phase was subdivided into several sub-phases. The primary emphasis in this phase was placed on the extent of the variability in various size forgings, the effect of heat treatment and the effect of deoxidation practice.
