A Strategy for the Constructive Employment of Military Forces in Support of Plowshare Operations in Remote Areas.

Abstract

The study examines whether or not there is a suitable peacetime role for the Armed Forces in support of nuclear construction operations under Project Plowshare. Following an analysis of opposing contemporary views of nation-building and domestic action it is found that the role of military forces can be extended to incorporate nuclear construction projects in remote areas. A strategy includes joint and combined military-civil task forces equipped with nuclear explosives for use on selected projects, or for disaster relief. (Modified author abstract)
