Analyzing the Organization of Experimental Shipping of Cargo in Containers, and Conditions of Their Use in Foreign Commerce,

Abstract

On the basis of experimental containerized shipping begun in 1966, Soyuzmorniiproyekt has devised a unified system of accounting for whereabouts and circulation of containers, and set up regulations aimed at cutting the time of return of containers. Containerized shipping effected reductions of expenses per net cargo ton of 61% in shipping glassware, 75% in shipping copper sulface, 56% in shipping televisions, and 40% in shipping spare auto parts. The shipping experiments include river and rail transport as well as sea. (Author)
