Production, Control and Utilization of Extremely High Density Relativistic Streams.

Abstract

The project is concerned with the study of beam dynamics for electron beams above 10,000 amperes and above 1,000,000 volts, and primarily for beams above 100,000 amperes and above 10,000,000 volts. The objective is to develop methods for producing extremely intense pinch effects which will draw the beam down to diameters of the order of 1/10 millimeter. Methods have been developed for injecting the beam into already formed linear pinched discharges and these studies are continuing to include the use of tapered pinch discharges.
