Development of a Decision-Making and Learning Network Based Upon a Model of the Reticular Formation.

Abstract

Reported is a project that evolved in two stages. The first was an effort, based upon an atomical and physiological evidence, to model the core of the reticular formation of vertebrate animals. The second stage, based largely upon the observations of experimental psychology, was an effort to build upon the first model a model of both classical conditioning and some features of instrumental conditioning. A possible application considered for both models was a robot for the exploration of Mars.
