Thermal Loading of Structural Materials.

Abstract

An experimental program to obtain dynamic strain gauge measurements and total impulse on 9-inch-diameter rings in a pulsed electron beam environment has been accomplished. A multichannel strain gauge data acquisition system was assembled and records of strains generated by thermal and combined thermal and impulsive loading were obtained for 6061-T6 aluminum and ATJ graphite rings. The mean electron energy was on the order of 600 keV and fluences on the order of 25 cal/sq. cm were obtained. Detectable permanent deformation was produced in all samples. (Author)
