Nd:YAG 0.5320-Micron Frequency Doubling Study

Abstract

The study is concerned with three major areas of study and analysis. The first is an in-depth experimental investigation of Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) crystals (CD*A and RDP) AT REPETITION RATES BETWEEN 5 AND 50 PPS AT INPUT LEVELS OF 1.06 MICRON ENERGY OF UP TO 1.5 JOULES/PULSE. The second is a theoretical investigation of the propagation of a 0.5320-micron beam through the atmosphere for various conditions and slant ranges to determine the maximum energy density attainable at a 10.0-km range when the energy is focused by external optics. The third is the demonstration of a breadboard laser system capable of 500-mj/pulse of 0.5320 micron energy at the 10 pps level and the conceptual design of an advanced and improved laser system capable of producing maximum frequency doubled energy density at a 10.0-km range at the 10 pps repetition rate.
