Bioelectric Reactions of the Midbrain Tectum of Chick Embryos to Light Stimuli,

Abstract

Electrical responses to stimulation with single, rhythmical or paired flashes were recorded from the dorsal surface of the midbrain tectum. Potentials evoked by single flashes were shown to occur in the contralateral midbrain tectum as early as the 18th day of incubation. It has thus been shown, that in the chick embryo functional development of the visual analyzer attains a fairly high level in the last prenatal days. (Modified author abstract)
