Certain Features of the Formation of Binary Chlorides of Alkali Metals in the Vapor State,

Abstract

The entropy was calculated for the dissociation of CsMcl2 to CsCl + MCl (M = alkali metal), assuming either a linear or a rhombic structure. The molecular parameters and vibration frequencies were found, rather grossly, from analogies. Comparison with experiment showed the real situation to be intermediate between the two proposed structures, indicating they may coexist, with the linear predominating soon and strongly for T above 1000K.
