An Experimental, Spread Spectrum Adaptive Array.

Abstract

An experimental four-element adaptive array for use in a PN-coded (spread spectrum), biphase modulated communication system is described. A reference signal generation loop suitable for such signals is described and certain aspects of its design are discussed. The experimental performance of the array with this reference loop is illustrated. A method of code acquisition and tracking is also described. It is shown how this system can provide significant interference protection during code acquisition, a feature not possible with many conventional spread spectrum systems. Finally, some experiments involving frequency-hopped signals are also described. (Author)
