Recreational Boat Developmental Test Program Developmental Testing. Volume III. Phase II. Small, Lightweight Boat Stability.

Abstract

An experimental/analytical study has been performed to evaluate small, lightweight boat stability characteristics for the purpose of defining a stability index which can be expressed in terms of readily available boat physical parameters. Several candidate stability index parameters have been examined with primary emphasis given to persons capacity, and position of offcenter dummy load for zero dynamic freeboard aft. Persons capacity data were obtained from computer program, and the position data representing offcenter dummy load for zero dynamic freeboard aft was obtained from experiments using a representative selection of small boats.
