Coastal Sea-Air Interactions and the Extent of Coastal Influence.
Abstract
The objectives of the coastal sea-air interaction project are: to determine the extent of coastal influence in various meteorological conditions, at various latitudes, and at various coasts; to determine the effect of the feedback of energy from the oceans on the atmosphere and describe and quantitatively formulate the mesoscale processes and effects on the atmosphere in coastal regions (e.g. coastal fog formulation); to determine how to use coastal meteorological observations for the analysis and prediction of coastal weather (the projection of coastal observations to offshore areas); and to determine how to use the coastal observations (such as the sea surface temperature and its abnormalities) for predicting the extent of oceanographic conditions and anomalies offshore.
